Preschoolers are naturally curious. Today we spent the morning exploring an array of ocean animals, shells, and books. The children had so many questions and made some pretty great discoveries. Since most of the kids have been to the coast they had some great background knowledge to build on. I was really impressed at how many ocean animals they knew from pictures. I put out a table full of various shells, ocean creatures, magnifying glasses, and clipboards with pencils. I gave no directions and simply wanted to see how the children would do with it. They were very interested in the center and spent a good amount of time exploring today. Some examined shells and then tried to draw them, others tried writing some letters. A few pretended to write facts about the shell they were looking at. There was a lot of discussion about size, shape, color, what animal had lived in which shells. Their curious little minds were hard at work. We felt the texture of the shells and how some were smooth and others were bumpy. Such great comparisons were being made. Later in the morning we made some ocean bottles to take home. We used oil and water, some food coloring, glitter, and sea shells to make a wave bottle. We also worked on counting fish and then tried tracing and writing our numbers. All in all, another busy day! Reminder that Friday is Picture Day for our class. See you then!

Why Blog? Here you will find little snippets of our days together. When my children were in preschool and would come home I would always ask, "So, what did you do today?". All they ever said was, "Played." That didn't tell me much. I hope this blog will be a place to share what we have done and help you ask more directed questions of your child. You will see first hand just what we do after you kiss your little one goodbye in the morning. It will also be a great place to visit and see just how much your child has grown and learned throughout the year. Archives
