Our morning started off with some great fine motor work. We used pipettes to transfer water into ice cube trays. We stacked small cubes without using our hands (quite a challenge) and most of the boys were fascinated by using clothes pins for the first time to "hang their mittens to dry". The boys love to keep their hands busy!
I was so excited to welcome the Owls back after the long Christmas break. It was so good to see the children again and they were thrilled to be back learning and playing with their friends. We had a wonderful day exploring all kinds of new and exciting challenges. Later, we read a story about a puppy's first snowfall and during art we made some truly unique and beautiful snowflakes with bright liquid water colors, pipettes and coffee filters. The boys finished the day with an exciting science experiment. We created our own "New Years fireworks" with baking soda, vinegar and a touch of food coloring. This kept their interest for nearly 40 minutes. I can't begin to explain how much baking soda and vinegar they went through. It was fascinating to see how they boys approached this task. Most started off by just adding the vinegar to the baking soda with their pipettes and watching the bubbly reaction. Then one child filled his hand with the baking soda and squirted the vinegar into his fist. How exciting and brilliant! Then others began adding the baking soda to their jars of vinegar to watch it bubble over, while still others preferred to simply dump their vinegar all over the tray of baking soda and watch and listen to bubble explosion. This went on and on and on. We will be revisiting this experiment again as soon as I replenish my supply of baking soda! Looking forward to the fun Friday will bring. Please remember to wear your school t-shirts as it is the first Friday of the month.

Why Blog? Here you will find little snippets of our days together. When my children were in preschool and would come home I would always ask, "So, what did you do today?". All they ever said was, "Played." That didn't tell me much. I hope this blog will be a place to share what we have done and help you ask more directed questions of your child. You will see first hand just what we do after you kiss your little one goodbye in the morning. It will also be a great place to visit and see just how much your child has grown and learned throughout the year. Archives
