We are exploring snow and ice this week in the owl class. The children enjoyed making our own "insta-snow", designing snowflakes, and freeing some arctic animals from a giant block of ice! Our dramatic play area has also been transformed into a smoothie shop where the children whipped up some healthy fruit smooties for each other. The smoothie shop was a huge hit with the kids. They made strawberry, blueberry, orange, and banana smoothies for their friends. We had a wonderful visit from the Edwards Aquafer Authority today. We learned about the importance of conserving our water and ways to help stop waste. The children each received a little finger puppet of Karston, the aquafer's mascot. When we headed back to class we whipped up some insta-snow for our sensory tub as well as using our glue bottles to make some one of a kind snowflakes which we dusted with some pretty colored sand. And we finished our day by trying to save some frozen animals from the ice. Each child received a block of ice, cups of table salt, rock salt, and warm colored water. They needed to use those tools to free the animal from the ice. We mixed, poured, poked, and salted our ice until we reached success. I'm so proud of each child's persistence. This process can take some time but each was throughly engaged and would not give up until their animal was free. Comments are closed.

Why Blog? Here you will find little snippets of our days together. When my children were in preschool and would come home I would always ask, "So, what did you do today?". All they ever said was, "Played." That didn't tell me much. I hope this blog will be a place to share what we have done and help you ask more directed questions of your child. You will see first hand just what we do after you kiss your little one goodbye in the morning. It will also be a great place to visit and see just how much your child has grown and learned throughout the year. Archives
