We did it! This was such a wonderful school year and the girls have learned so much. I can't believe the summer is upon us. The girls looked great in their new Owl shirts. After chapel we took a walk over to the preschool garden to check out what's been growing. While we were there we had a fruit popsicle to celebrate the last day of school! We finished the morning making necklaces for the summer. The girls were very excited to have a picnic with their parents. Thankfully the weather was not too oppressive. Thank you all for the most wonderful year. This has been a sweet class and I can't wait to watch them grow over the next few years. I hope you all have a safe and fun filled summer. I will leave the Group Me chat active through the summer so please feel free to use that as a way to communicate with each other and plan some playdates for the girls. I know they are going to miss each other. Enjoy this time. Trust me it goes by in the blink of an eye and before you know it you will have a daughter headed off to college. God Bless!
The girls were excited to see our classroom transformed into a campsite when they arrived this morning. We had a tent, campfire, bbq, and several camping themed centers to explore. Before we headed out to play we enjoyed a snack of bananas and s'mores. Safe to say the girls loved it all! Outside we dried off the slides and swings before having some fun. Back inside we made a stop and the campsite. We watched live crickets and worms. as well as read books, went fishing, searched for bugs, grilled, and played dress up. During art we used a paper plate and some brown paint to create an owl. We hung them from the ceiling and lowered the lights to pretend we were camping at night. I still can't wrap my brain around Friday being our last day together. I have throughly enjoyed watching these young ladies grow. They have learned so much, become more independent and blossomed into curious little learners.
The girls all came home with their end of the year gift today. Please wear your shirts on Friday. We will enjoy some ice pops and a fun family picnic beginning at noon in the ravine. Bring a camping chair. blanket and your favorite lunch to celebrate all of our accomplishments. See you Friday! We had a great time being super heroes this morning. We enjoyed several centers, one of our favorite science experiments of the year, and a visit to the Super Hero Experience. We had a great time on the playground! After the playground we took a trip to the Super Hero Room. There were all kinds of activities set up. Everything from Spiderman Balance, to Leaping Tall Buildings in a Single Bound, to practicing you Super Hero Breath. The girls loved it and didn't want to leave when our time was up! On the way back to the room we stopped for a Super Hero photo op! It was fun to fly like Superman. We finished our morning with some science. Baking soda and vinegar has been one of our favorite experiments all year so be decided to revisit it. This exciting chemical reaction never gets old! I can't believe next week is our last week together. This group of girls has been so much fun to teach. Next week we will go camping and enjoy our end of year school picnic. Wow! Time sure does fly when you're having fun!
What a beautiful day to share together. We enjoyed a bunch of new centers and a pizza parlor in the dramatic play area. Outside there was a lot of swinging, chasing, and sliding to be had by everyone. After reading a few Superhero books we decided to paint some Spider Man spiderwebs in red and blue. While we are occupied at the table we noticed a little bird stop by our bird feeder. He came and went several times and the whole class was delighted! The girls were asking for some play dough time and since we haven't done that in a while we took it out and added some super hero figures to the mix. Friday we will spend some time in the Super Hero Room that the three's teachers will set up. The 4's and 5's will be attending their graduation ceremony and we thought this would be a fun way to celebrate our youngest students. There will be a variety of fun activities to explore both inside and out. Costumes are welcomed! Can't wait to see you Friday!
I apologize for the late post. Yesterday was another fun filled day. We explored many other sea animals as well as taking in a puppet show from the Tobin Arts Center, and finishing up our Mother's Day gifts. We also enjoyed another fun themed snack. The girls assembled grapefruit and strawberry boats as well as some cute little clam cookie treats. The candy eyeballs were their favorites! We were able to get some outside before the rain this weekend. Back inside we were busy working on our fine motor scissor skills again. Today we made the cutest crabs. There were straight line cuts as well as working on cutting curved lines. This was a challenge but overall they came out so cute and the girls were proud of their efforts. Wednesday we spent some time putting the finishing touches on our Mother's Day gifts. The girls were so proud of the jewelry boxes they painted and the key chains they made. Here are some photos of them assembling the key chains. They really did it all themselves! We were blessed by the final visit from the Tobin Arts Center. They brought some puppets to share and the girls loved the show. Overall it was a wonderful day. We crammed a lot in.
Thank you all for the heartfelt notes and the extremely generous gift basket. I was so touched. But really, I am the lucky one to have had the pleasure to teach this amazing group of fun, curious, energetic, inquisitive, imaginative, playful, and joy filled children. It has been my honor to teach these girls and to walk alongside your families this year. You will always hold a special place in my heart! God bless you all! Next week will be Superhero Week! Dress in any fun superhero t-shirts or capes. We will enjoy lots of fun games and on Friday we will spend time engaging in a wide variety of Superhero themed activities ranging from leaping tall building in a single bound to practicing other superhero feats of strength. It is sure to be another exciting time together! The girls and I enjoyed our morning learning about ocean animals. We played with several new centers, enjoyed a wonderful on theme snack, and made some great sea animal necklaces. Everyone was excited with our interactive snack this morning. We went fishing! Our plates looked like the ocean filled with pretzel fish. We used celery stick fishing poles and some peanut butter to "catch" the fish. Then we ate them up. So much fun! Despite some minor sprinkles we made the most of our time on the playground. During story time today I told the girls about a trip our family took to Mexico a few years ago where we were able to help dig up sea turtle nests that had hatched the night before. Our goal was to recover any baby turtles that were unable to make it to the surface the night before and release them at the waters edge. It was an amazing experience. I shared pictures and we talked about the life cycle of the sea turtle. We also learned that sea turtles often enjoy eating jellyfish. Then we went back to the big table to work on our scissor skills again and cut out the body of a jellyfish and add tentacles with some glue. They turned out great and are hanging from the ceiling of our room. While still at the table we cleaned up and played a sea creature trivia game. I had several bags with a sea animal inside. On the bag was a riddle I read and as a group we tried to figure out what animal was in the bag before the big reveal. Everyone enjoyed the game. We finished our morning with a little lacing. I have tried this type of activity with the girls several times this year but today was the first time they were all interested and really took the time to lace each bead. They did a great job and were so proud of their necklaces. We have a lot more to cover on Friday. We will be painting seashells and making paper crabs. I'm sure everyone will be up for the challenge. See you Friday!
We enjoyed our time in centers working on puzzles, cutting strips and sorting bugs by type and by color. Before heading outside we enjoyed a fun buggy snack. On the playground we enjoyed the fresh air and time chasing each other. The girls were busy working on a special project in art. I hope you were all able to visit the Oak Hills Art Museum today. The girls enjoyed spotting their masterpieces when we went to tour it this morning as a class. I can't believe we are down to the last 3 weeks together. This year has just flown by. We will make the most of the time we have left. Next week we will dive into the study of the ocean and ocean life. It is sure to be anther exciting week for the girls. Enjoy your weekend.
Everyone was so happy to be together this morning. We enjoyed plenty of new games and insect themed centers during our free play. The kitchen was a bustling Breakfast Cafe, and the science center was full of insect specimens to explore. When we headed out to the playground we were on a mission to find some roly poly bugs. A few years ago I found these adorable Roly Poly Playground cases at Bass Pro Shops. They are perfect for any preschool entomologist. On any given day the playground is teaming with roly poly bugs. The church must have had the exterminator out recently because we only found one roly poly during our hunt. We were searching the garden, turning over rocks, looking at the grass' edge, along sidewalks, and nothing! We will have to give it another try on Friday. The one roly poly we did find seemed to enjoy his time in the playground and we enjoyed observing him. Back inside we enjoyed some story time on the carpet and then we moved over to the big table for a fine motor project. We have been working so hard all year on cutting with scissors. Today we stepped it up a notch and tried our hands at cutting circles. We then labeled our circles with the letters in our names and glued them together to make the cutest name caterpillars. The girls did 100% of the work and I think they turned out absolutely adorable. We finished off the morning with some Butterfly paintings. The colors were so bright and they butterflies look beautiful hanging from our ceiling. We are all looking forward to touring the annual Oak Hills Preschool Art Museum on Friday. You are welcome to come visit any time during the morning or at pick up time. The museum will be available all day. We will take a tour as a class and see if we can find some of our special projects from the year. In the meantime perhaps you will have better luck on a roly poly bug hunt at your house. They a nice little bugs to observe. See you Friday!

Why Blog? Here you will find little snippets of our days together. When my children were in preschool and would come home I would always ask, "So, what did you do today?". All they ever said was, "Played." That didn't tell me much. I hope this blog will be a place to share what we have done and help you ask more directed questions of your child. You will see first hand just what we do after you kiss your little one goodbye in the morning. It will also be a great place to visit and see just how much your child has grown and learned throughout the year. Archives
