When they got back to the room we had story time and Tootsie (our class puppet) brought colorful scarves for us to dance with and a great story called Blue vs. Yellow by Tom Sullivan. Once we finished the story we headed to the big table to work on our scissor skills and mix up some colors of our own.
I absolutely love watching kiddos first attempts at scissor use. They are so focused on how to open and close the scissors and managing the paper to snip in the other hand. It is precious. I LOVE the concentration on their faces. For some, this process can be frustrating at first so we take a step back and just try ripping the paper strips. We will work up to the proper scissor grip and control as the year progresses.
