Tootsie also brought special bat glasses for us to try. Everyone had fun pretending to be a bat!
It was an exciting day learning all about bats! As soon as the children entered the room today they knew it would be a special day. The kitchen area was transformed into a bat cave. The children were delighted to crawl in, turn on a flash light, and enjoy reading books about bats. Tootsie brought some surprises to class for the children. They each got a little plastic bat to examine. We discussed the fact that bats are not birds. They are mammals. They have fur not feathers. Bats are born alive, not from eggs like birds. We pointed out their wings, tail, thumbs, feet, and fur. We talked about how bats fly at night and sleep during the day. Bats love to eat mosquitoes. Some bats even eat fruit. They boys and girls were good listeners and very interested in these fascinating creatures. Tootsie also brought special bat glasses for us to try. Everyone had fun pretending to be a bat! During our fine motor time today we worked with Rock Crayons. (I purchased these on Amazon. They would make great stocking stuffers.) They are the perfect size and shape to encourage proper pincer grasp necessary for pencil writing. We practiced making circles and drawing straight lines. During art we finger-painted a paper plate to look like the moon. Once they are dry we will add a bat silhouette. During science we made bat slime! The children took turns squeezing the glue into the bowl and mixing up the slime ingredients. Once it was finished they each tossed in a few sequin bats for added sparkle. Then we pulled and stretched our slime for some exploratory fun. Center time was full of free choice. Some enjoyed building, others played games set out to practice different fine motor, counting, or patterning skills. It certainly was a full day. See you all Friday!

Why Blog? Here you will find little snippets of our days together. When my children were in preschool and would come home I would always ask, "So, what did you do today?". All they ever said was, "Played." That didn't tell me much. I hope this blog will be a place to share what we have done and help you ask more directed questions of your child. You will see first hand just what we do after you kiss your little one goodbye in the morning. It will also be a great place to visit and see just how much your child has grown and learned throughout the year. Archives
