The children practiced pinching the bulb of the pipette with their thumb and pointer, holding the pinch and placing the pipette in the water, releasing the bulb and watching the water travel up the tube, then they picked up the pipette without pinching the bulb and transferred it to another glass, then pinched the bulb to release the water. When you think of it in those terms it is quite the challenge. The children picked it up pretty quickly and were transferring water like experts in no time.
It didn't take long for one of the kiddos to put the pipette down and just start pouring the water from one glass to another. Before long others tried this as well. Did I stop them? NO! Pouring is also a valuable and necessary skill to possess and with the tray to catch any spills there was no harm is trying this as well. I was quite pleased they decided to take the activity one step further. This kept us entertained for 25 minutes.
