We made the most beautiful symmetry monsters. We chose the color background we wanted, added some drops of paint and folded our paper in half. When we opened it up, the most beautiful symmetrical design was revealed. Once we added wiggly eyes they really did look like monsters.
You'll need...
a tall clear bottle
vinegar
baking soda
a funnel
a balloon
marker
Pour some vinegar into the bottle. Set it aside. Pull the balloon over the funnel and pour in some baking soda. No measurement necessary. Once the baking soda is in the balloon slip the balloon over the mouth of the bottle. Hold the balloon upright, dropping the baking soda into the bottle. The chemical reaction of the baking soda and vinegar will produce a lot of bubbles. As they pop, carbon dioxide is released into the bottle and inflates the balloon. Carefully remove the balloon from the bottle and add a silly monster face. This was so much fun and the children were amazed at the "magic" of science.
During center time the children explored the many offering throughout the room.
