I look forward to Friday! See you then.
This morning the children arrived to find the classroom transformed into the local supermarket. There were shopping carts and baskets, flyers, a wide variety of healthy foods to choose from, and even a check out lane. This is one role play situation that every child has had first hand experiences with. And they knew exactly what to do. Watching them weigh their produce, examine ingredient labels, and beep out loud every time they scanned their purchases shows just how knowledgable they are when it comes to a shopping trip. Every child participated and were confident in their play. They freely changed roles from shopper to cashier to shelf stocker. Aside from the shopping experience there were plenty of other areas of the classroom the children enjoyed exploring. During our circle time we talked about the difference between fruits and vegetables. I had a set of bean bags shaped as the various foods and we sorted them by kind. We also did a fun little balancing race where we tried to cross the room balancing a bean bag on our heads. So much fun! Play is such an important path to learning. This group of children has come such a long way this year. They have really grown into eager learners. In September we never could have had such productive play experiences. They were not developmentally ready for it. The language that they are using, the cooperation they are showing each other, and the risks they are willing to take now are very exciting to watch.
I look forward to Friday! See you then. Comments are closed.

Why Blog? Here you will find little snippets of our days together. When my children were in preschool and would come home I would always ask, "So, what did you do today?". All they ever said was, "Played." That didn't tell me much. I hope this blog will be a place to share what we have done and help you ask more directed questions of your child. You will see first hand just what we do after you kiss your little one goodbye in the morning. It will also be a great place to visit and see just how much your child has grown and learned throughout the year. Archives
