Today was such an exciting day for our little scientists! We began as usual with center time. The girls enjoyed cutting owl strips, counting owls, sorting them by color, and exploring the science table which was full of bird related items. We were busy learning new chapel songs today. Here is the YouTube link to both. Once we were back in our room the rest of the morning was spent dissecting owl pellets. We read a section of Gail Gibbons' book All About Owls which describes how owls digest their food and what owl pellets really are. Next, we dressed the part with lab coats and all. Then we unwrapped our owl pellets and used some science tools to help us investigate what was inside. We were amazed to find a lot of fur and more small bones than we could count. We even found a few small rodent skulls! Some of the girls preferred to watch while other dove right in and were excited with each new discovery. Ms. Amanda, Mrs. Kunkel, and myself all got involved. Mrs. Kunkel even took our findings to a few other classes to share. (enjoy the slideshow below) After lunch we had a few minutes before pick up and a few of the girls wanted to try on my owl masks. They sure make cute owls. It sure was an exciting day! Next week we will be learning about rocks. I will bring my rock collection in to share with the girls. I had an 8th grade science teacher that inspired me to begin collecting so by the end of the week I'm sure that each of the girls will want to start a rock collection of their own. Enjoy your weekend!

Why Blog? Here you will find little snippets of our days together. When my children were in preschool and would come home I would always ask, "So, what did you do today?". All they ever said was, "Played." That didn't tell me much. I hope this blog will be a place to share what we have done and help you ask more directed questions of your child. You will see first hand just what we do after you kiss your little one goodbye in the morning. It will also be a great place to visit and see just how much your child has grown and learned throughout the year. Archives
