The girls were busy this morning enjoying the centers as they arrived. I am noticing the group as a whole beginning to take more of an interest in the block center. Today the girls had fun trying to build towers taller than themselves. We had fun climbing and pushing each other on the swings. During Chapel today we heard the story of Palm Sunday and Holy Week. Back in our room we had another visit with the worms and once we were done we took them to the Life Skills Garden to release them. We returned to our room for one last worm activity. Painting with worms (lures). The girls loved the idea of using worms as their paint brushes today. Next week we will celebrate with our Easter Party on Wednesday and school will be closed for Good Friday. Lunch will be provided on Wednesday by our party parents and we will dye eggs and have an Easter Egg Hunt. It should be a lot of fun. See you all next week!
We had a unique morning. Our schedule was a bit upside down today as we went directly to a puppet show from the San Antonio Police Department before even getting to the classroom. We learned about stranger danger, what to do if we are lost, and some fire safety tips. The girls enjoyed the puppets and the police officers were great with the kids. It's that time of year again when the playground is covered in pollen. Hopefully the girls aren't too bothered by it all. We didn't let a little yellow pollen stop us from enjoying our time outside this morning. Once we were back inside and washed all the pollen off of our hands and settled in for a fun story about a worm. Then we had a discussion about how worms are one of God's special creatures. We looked at pictures of worms and noticed that they don't have any eyes. In fact, it was hard to tell the worms head from its tail. We discussed the fact that worms do not have any teeth so they can't bite. Their bodies and cool and damp. Worms move by expanding and contracting their body segments. Then it was time to bring out the real worms. Every year I have one or two students that refuse to touch or hold the worms. Not this year! I was so proud of the girls! Every single one of them held a worm in their hands. They really enjoyed the experience. As they became more comfortable with the worms I had to remind them that although the worms can not speak or tell us if we are hurting them we need to use very gentle touch and not pull the worms bodies. It was so much fun watching them overcome fears and delight in a new experience. Once the worms were back in their container the girls had an opportunity to explore the centers they missed at the beginning of the day. The worms will be back for another visit on Friday before we release them in the Life Skills garden. There they will live out their days aerating our soil.
Looking ahead to next Wednesday.... Our Easter Party will take place from 11:45-12:30 in the classroom. If the pollen is any better we might try for a picnic outside. Some other classes in the school have opted for a party off campus but we will have a regular day with plenty of Easter fun sprinkled in. Drop off will be normal time. We will dye Easter Eggs in the morning and decorate them. Then we will have an egg hunt to kick off our party at 11:45. Please provide 8 treat filled eggs for the hunt. We will decorate paper bags during the day to place our eggs in. Lunch will be provided at the party. Pick up will remain the same. Extended day is still offered if your child is enrolled in it and wants to stay until 2:15. Let me know if you have any questions. The girls had a lot of fun today continuing to explore our bird themed centers. We patiently watched and waited but the birds outside have not yet discovered our window feeders. Hopefully by next week we should see some action. We enjoyed another creative snack today. "Bird's Nest" with a Mama Bird fruit cup on top. The girls LOVED it! We read a few books about hummingbirds. One titled, "Little Green" is about a boy who watches a hummingbird fly around his garden and paints all the different movements the hummingbird makes. So we broke out the paint sticks (such vibrant colors) and listened to some music that reminded us of the hummingbirds behaviors and painted. The final products were just beautiful! Some of the girls even painted two papers today. Once we cleaned up we decided to do a science experiment with a fun bird twist. We used Easter Eggs that looked like little chicks (found at the Dollar Tree) and some Alka-Seltzer tablets and a little water to create a chemical reaction that would blow the heads off the chicks. It was so much fun! So much in fact that I sent the experiment home for you to try as a family this weekend. Hope you enjoy it as well. It was another great week together. I am looking forward to more adventures next week as we learn all about earthworms. And yes, we will have live earthworms in class to explore and observe. I can't wait to see everyone's reactions.
Enjoy your weekend. See you next Wednesday. I hope everyone enjoyed their Spring Break. It was nice to be back together this morning. We began right away with pictures. The girls did a great job and I can't wait to see the proofs. Once we made it to the room the girls were excited to find all new toys and games to explore. This week we are studying backyard birds. We enjoyed playing some color sorting and matching games as well as one where the girls could feed a baby bird worms. For snack we had a lot of fun eating "bird seed" trail mix. It was a little damp outside but we didn't let that stop us from having some fun. During our art time we each painted a bird house for our fine feathered friends. Tootsie also brought us a few window mounted bird feeders and some seed to hang on our windows. Hopefully the birds find it soon so we can have a close up view of them eating. We had some extra time before music and the girls enjoyed more center time, playing school, taking care of the baby dolls, and one friend even tried on the baby doll's pants herself! Every day is an adventure in the Young 3's! After a week apart the girls were very happy to be back together. Looking forward to Friday. We will be learning about one of my favorite backyard birds, the Hummingbird. Hopefully our new feeders will bring other birds to our window for viewing as well. See you then!
It was another perfectly princess morning. The girls looked lovely in their princess dresses. Everyone enjoyed the centers, princess books, hair salon, and some princess art work. Outside the girls were able to navigate the climbing structures much better today. Several also enjoyed more antics on the slides, choosing to slide upside down, on their backs, head first. Our painted castles from Wednesday were dry so we took this opportunity to work with glue bottles independently. We discussed the importance of using just a little dot of glue. We needed to resist the temptation to squeeze large glue puddles on our paper and really work on controlling the pressure we applied so just a small drop would come out. The blinged out castles are beautiful. We were able to continue with the glue bottle as we designed our own princess shoe. Ms. Heidi's Class knew that we were enjoying all things princess this week so they shared some pink, sparkly, bubble gum flavored play dough with us. The girls LOVED it! It's hard to believe we only have 10 weeks of school left! This year is flying by. It is exciting to see how much the girls have grown. I love watching their little personalities shine and their friendships form. We have come a long way since September.
I hope you all enjoy your Spring Break! Safe travels to those leaving town. We will see you on the 22th for Bird Week. Today was simply magical! Our little princesses were in heaven. I never envisioned myself wearing a gown to preschool but today it was fitting. I think I enjoyed today just as much as the girls did. There were so many wonderful things to explore in the room. We enjoyed all of the new centers, a castle, princess books, and a hair salon in dramatic play. And we did it all wearing our finest princess gowns. The playground was a bit of a challenge today. Climbing in princess dresses presented problems for most of us but we worked through it. We figured out pretty quick if we stuck to the stairs and lifted our skirts a bit it was much easier to climb. Mrs. Kunkel came to play too and the girls even got her to try a few of the slides. Back inside we made name wands and some of us tried on different princess dresses. We also took time to paint our own castle. The girls decided they wanted to use pink and purple paints. Once the castles are dry we will bling them out with gems on Friday. As each princess had a turn at the easel the rest of us had more free time to explore the various centers again. Thank you for helping make today so special. Everyone enjoyed themselves so much! We were the talk of the preschool as many visitors stopped by to see all the lovely princesses. I look forward to an encore Princess Day, Friday. We will be finishing up our castles and decorating some princess shoes. We will also enjoy some pink princess play dough. It should be even more fun! See you Friday.
Our little farm girls enjoyed the morning. They were building towers at the light table, counting sheep, washing pigs, and putting puzzles together. We had fun running off some energy on the playground. At one point the girls decided to have a contest to see who could slide down the twisty slide with the most style and flare! It was like watching an Olympic event. They were cracking themselves up and cheering each other on. Back inside we enjoyed a new month of Chapel songs and then finished up our barns from Wednesday. We also spent time working on our scissor skills. Everyone snipped some farm animal strips. Baggies full of their efforts went home in totes today. Some even asked for a few strips to take home to work on with you. For today's art project we painted pigs in the mud. The girls thought it was so funny that our painting tool today would be a toothbrush. Everyone loved covering their pigs in the mud. Our discussion at lunch today was all about next week and how much everyone is looking forward to Princess Week! I think we may have several Elsa's in attendance. Your daughter is welcome to wear a princess dress or costume to school if they would like. We will be painting castles, designing princess shoes and there may even be a hair salon set up in dramatic play! I think the girls are going to LOVE it!
The class was excited to spend some time learning about farm life. We explored new centers, played animal sound bingo and painted a barn. The fun continued out on the playground. Back inside, Tootsie brought us some egg shakers and a fun song to use them with. The instrumental music had several stops and starts. Every time the music would play we would shake our eggs. When the music stopped we had to freeze. It was a great listening activity and the girls really enjoyed it. After a story, we headed to the big table to work on some art. The girls had an opportunity to paint a big red barn. We will put the finishing touches on it Friday once the red paint is dry. We also had some time to squeeze in another listening activity with some Animal Sound Bingo. Before lunch we used some farm animal puppets to sing, "Old MacDonald". The girls we all too eager to help out. While the girls were enjoying their lunch we played one last farm animal game. I had a tray of farm animals and a pack of riddles. I read each riddle and the girls had to figure out which animal I was looking for. They did a great job! Can you believe we are already in March? Friday is the first Friday of the month so we will be wearing our school t-shirts. Hope everyone can join us for some more fun down on the farm.

Why Blog? Here you will find little snippets of our days together. When my children were in preschool and would come home I would always ask, "So, what did you do today?". All they ever said was, "Played." That didn't tell me much. I hope this blog will be a place to share what we have done and help you ask more directed questions of your child. You will see first hand just what we do after you kiss your little one goodbye in the morning. It will also be a great place to visit and see just how much your child has grown and learned throughout the year. Archives
