Some plopped their ice cube in the cup of colored water and watched. Others began adding salt and rock salt to their cube and were amazed at how it "ate" away at the ice cube creating ridges. Still others chose to put their ice in the water and add salt to the water. It didn't matter how they chose to melt the ice but that they were engaged and never gave up trying new methods. They shared ideas, tried new strategies, and delighted in each others success. They also had a lot of fun learning!
We continued our exploration of ice this morning. We participated in an experiment to see who could melt their ice cube the fastest. The children were each given a tray (to contain the mess), table salt, rock salt, water, and a pipette. They could use the materials provided any way they chose. This freedom to explore is what gave this activity such a high interest level. Some plopped their ice cube in the cup of colored water and watched. They also had a lot of fun learning! We also have a lot of fun out on the playground. The weather was just perfect. Back inside we had fun building snowmen out of play dough. We also enjoyed mixing up smoothies and matching arctic animals to their picture cards. We ended the day with our last birthday party of the year. We are now officially a class of all 3 year olds! Happy Birthday sweet girl! Looking forward to next week. We will transform our dramatic play area into an ice cream parlor. We will even make homemade ice cream in a bag next Friday! Enjoy the long weekend.

Why Blog? Here you will find little snippets of our days together. When my children were in preschool and would come home I would always ask, "So, what did you do today?". All they ever said was, "Played." That didn't tell me much. I hope this blog will be a place to share what we have done and help you ask more directed questions of your child. You will see first hand just what we do after you kiss your little one goodbye in the morning. It will also be a great place to visit and see just how much your child has grown and learned throughout the year. Archives
