All of our centers this week revolve around owls. Our science table is full of feathers, eggs, bird x-rays, and even a replica of a birds skull. Lots to explore!
Then we got the most exciting surprise. Tootsie brought us some mail! She had a big package delivered to school for us. Inside it was filled with owl pellets. She told us that owls eat small animals and their stomachs can not digest the fur or bones of those animals. So the owl regurgitates the parts it can not digest and those are called owl pellets.
Together with a partner we got to break open an owl pellet and try to find the bones hidden inside. It was fascinating and we had so much fun trying to identify what kinds of bones we found. In the end we found some leg bones, ribs, jaws, spine parts and even a few skulls! It was awesome. Once we finished exploring we washed our hands and were on to the next activity.
Also, if you have not brought me a blank t-shirt for the Thanksgiving Feast please do so by Friday. I will make the ones I have tomorrow and return them on Friday. I will be making Turkey t-shirts for our class to wear to the feast. Each class dresses up as either turkeys, Native Americans, or pilgrims. I know we are sure to be the cutest turkeys ever!
