Once the show was over we returned to the classroom and washed up. We had some work to do. We gathered for circle time and sang a few songs. Then I introduced the children to jumbo push pins. This is a great fine motor tool. We discussed safety and how to use this "big kid" tool. For this particular activity I asked the children to lay on their belly and prop themselves up with their elbows. This helps build trunk strength, as well as isolates the muscles so there is very little range of motion. After all we didn't want to poke a friend with a pin. I demonstrated and then passed out materials to the children. Their task was to poke holes in the outline of the circle drawn on their paper. Is it ok if we miss and poke in the middle of the paper? Sure, everyone makes mistakes but we tried hard to focus on the outline. The finished circles were sent home today.
Let me start today by saying the Owl class is a brave bunch! We had a visit from Tom Kinsley, the Nature Guy. He brought some interesting creatures for us to see up close. The boys and girls were very brave and each one touched almost every animal. I'm talking snakes, hissing cockroaches, rats, toads, and a dove! BRAVE!!! I was so impressed with how well the children sat and listened. Everyone respectfully waited their turns. The Owls received several compliments from other teachers. Again, another fine motor activity. First we had to learn how to open the bottles. After a little practice we discussed how just a little glue goes a long way. We repeated the phrase, "Dot, Dot, Not A Lot." Each child received a sheet of paper full of little circles. We tried really hard to control our glue so as not to squeeze too much and to apply the right amount of pressure for just a drop to come out. Once the glue dots are dry we will send them home. We enjoyed some center time working on Shape Themed centers. Friday, we will go on a Shape Hunt. It should be quite an adventure!

Why Blog? Here you will find little snippets of our days together. When my children were in preschool and would come home I would always ask, "So, what did you do today?". All they ever said was, "Played." That didn't tell me much. I hope this blog will be a place to share what we have done and help you ask more directed questions of your child. You will see first hand just what we do after you kiss your little one goodbye in the morning. It will also be a great place to visit and see just how much your child has grown and learned throughout the year. Archives
